New Delhi, August 29, 2023: In a significant move ahead of the festive season, the Union Cabinet announced a reduction of ₹200 in the prices of 14 kg LPG cylinders for all users. The decision aims to provide relief to households grappling with rising expenses. Presently, a domestic LPG cylinder costs ₹1,053 in Delhi, ₹1,052.50 in Mumbai, ₹1,068.50 in Chennai, and ₹1,079 in Kolkata. The prices had seen a hike of ₹50 in July, and earlier, there were two increases in May.
The Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, made the announcement during a press conference, terming it as a special Raksha Bandhan gift for all women. He emphasized, “PM Modi has decided ₹200 reduction in the price of domestic LPG cylinders for all users… This is a gift from PM Narendra Modi to the women of the country during the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.”
Anurag Thakur also highlighted the continuation of the subsidy under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana for PMUY consumers. He mentioned, “Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries are already getting ₹200 subsidy…but they will also be benefitted from the decrease in the rate, that means the rate reduction for the ‘Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana’ beneficiaries will be ₹400 per cylinder.”

Furthermore, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, responsible for Petroleum and Natural Gas, expressed his contentment with the decision. He emphasized, “The reduction in cooking gas prices is aimed at providing direct relief to families and individuals, while also supporting the government’s larger goal of ensuring affordable access to essential items.”
As part of the government’s efforts to ease the financial burden on citizens and promote household welfare, these decisions were taken. The reduction in LPG cylinder prices and the distribution of Ujjwala connections are expected to alleviate the economic pressure faced by households.
In conjunction with this news, Madhav Fashion, a renowned fashion brand, issued a statement expressing its support for the government’s initiatives. The statement read, “Madhav Fashion stands by the government’s commitment to uplift and support households during significant occasions. Just as the government is reducing financial stress, we strive to offer premium fabric choices that enhance the lives of individuals, ensuring they celebrate their moments with joy and comfort.”
The government’s move comes at a time when it is actively working towards providing affordable access to essential resources. The distribution of Ujjwala connections to eligible households without an LPG connection is set to expand the reach of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and benefit an estimated 10.35 crore beneficiaries.
